Above, Studio Assistant Charlotte Murphy talks about The Place Where Project

  1. Share an artistic or written expression of memories, emotions, ideas, and sensory experiences of place!

Is there a place that is meaningful to you?

Places make our stories unique and they connect us to each other. We know places that we belong and places that don’t accept who we are. We can remember where we fell in love, experienced loss, conquered a fear, felt most alone, or completely at peace. There are beautiful places, ordinary places, places we share with others, and places we keep to ourselves.

We would love to know how you create place

First, think about a place. Why is this place important? Think of a specific time, a moment that makes this place meaningful to you. What senses, memories, or emotions come up? What story is written in that place?

Next, share with us this story without using the name of the actual place. Your response can be an anecdote, essay, or poem. You can take a photograph, create a painting or drawing, make a short video, or create an audio recording. Remember, there is no ‘wrong’ way to experience place; imperfection is what makes life interesting. You can try closing your eyes to be in your place. Let your emotions and experiences guide you. Use specific detail as well as sensory detail- what does the place feel like? Smell like? Sound like? What have you learned from this place?

However you choose to respond, we greatly appreciate your contribution! We are curious, we are listening, and we are excited to see your expression of place!

As humans, we are placemakers; we practice creativity by giving meaning to the places around us. Just as we create places, places create us. Places are the pages of our book, the lead actor in our memories. They make our stories unique and they connect us to each other. We know places that we belong, and places that don’t accept who we are. We can remember where we fell in love, experienced loss, conquered a fear, felt most alone, or completely at peace. There are beautiful places, ordinary places, places we share with others, and places we keep to ourselves.
